Instructions
for Logging Into
Jim Luke's Moodle Site
Follow these 5 steps:
- Go to http://plansolutions.com/moodle
You might want to bookmark this site - you will always login from this
page. If you forget, there is also a link on the page at
plansolutions.com
- You should see a screen that
looks like this, only with the Username and Password boxes being empty:
- Enter your user name.
This
is the same user name you use to access other HFCC services such as
Webadvisor.
It is typically your last name
preceded by the initials for your first and middle name. There
may also be some numerals at the end. For example, if the famous
economist John Maynard Keynes had a HFCC user name it would likely be
jmkeynes or jmkeynes27 or something like that. It is all lower case. Please note that if you
had previously taken one of my courses on my Moodle site in the past,
then you may have had a different user name then. Follow these
instructions this semester.
- The initial password
depends on which
course you are registered in:
- For BEC 151 Macroeconomics: Maynard36
Be sure you
enter it exactly as it appears here. Passwords in Moodle are
case-sensitive.
- For BEC 152 Microeconomics:
Smith1776
- If you were registered last semester and participated in one of
Moodle-based courses, then you are already setup. Use the
password you created for yourself last semeste. You do not need
to change it. If you don't remember it, then email me and I will
reset it for you.
- The above password should only work once. Once
you login for the first time, you
should be prompted to set a new password
that you select.
Remember this password, you will use it for all future access. If
you forget your password you must email Jim to reset the account.
Your new password
MUST:
- have 8 characters
- have at least one upper case letter
- have at least one lower case letter
- have at least one numeric character
That's it to log-in the first time. You may need to
login back in after changing your password. If the system does not ask
you to change your password and instead logs you in using the temporary
initial password, then change it manually within the system. To Change
Password from inside the course (at anytime): after
logging into the course, click on "Profile" in the Administration box
on the left side of the page. Then click on "Change Password"
button and follow the directions.
It is a good idea to check your "profile" and make sure the information is correct. To
do this, after you have logged in, look at the left side of the
screen. There is a block titled "Administration". Click on the
"Profile" link in the Administration block. Then click on the
"Edit" tab when your profile appears. From this "edit" tab, you
can change your password and update other information. DO NOT
change your user name. That will lock you out of the course. But,
please make sure that the email address listed is the one you want to
use to receive forum posting updates, announcements, and messages from
me, Jim. An optional activity is to upload a picture or avatar of
yourself. This will display next to your name in any forum
posting you make. It's a way to make your discussions with fellow
students a little more "human", but it's totally optional.
Finally, also on the "edit" profile page is a button for "advanced
edit". This will display more fields and settings you can change,
including adding some instant message addresses if you wish. This
is totally optional and keep in mind that this info becomes
semi-public: the rest of your classmates can see it.
